Putting a face to the name: Introducing Rahim Packir Saibo
Rahim joined AHC in 2001 as a new graduate, with a degree in Computer Science and Maths under his belt, and began his journey to become one of the world’s leading modeller developers.
Now an experienced software engineer and consultant, Rahim has played a key part in establishing the processes and practices that underpin the cutting edge websites and modellers produced by AHC’s technical team.
Having recently spent three months in Melbourne, and with the intention to return in a more formal capacity, Rahim is passionate about Australia… particularly the food, wine and coffee scene!
What do you enjoy most about working on modellers?
"The positive long term impact on people’s lives; we help empower everyday people to take charge of an aspect of their lives that might otherwise be beyond their understanding and control.
"I'm also a geek at heart, so the opportunity to work with exciting technologies appeals to me. I have a broad skillset and my job allows me to work at many levels, balancing a range of issues from the front-end user experience and design of a modeller through to the intricacies of actuarial mathematics and back-end engineering."
What can be challenging about it?
"Keeping things simple and easy to understand for our audience. Given the vast amount of interesting information we could calculate or model, there's a temptation to overload users with information simply because we can. We take care to avoid this trap and pare it down to what really matters."
What’s the best holiday you have ever had?
"An easy question - Japan! I enjoy travel, but nowhere else in the world has given me such a culture shock and yet it’s so civilised. I loved the people, the technology, the food, but perhaps most of all the stunning scenery."
What are three things you couldn’t live without?
"Great flavours, great sounds and the chance to play (not-so-great!) tennis."
How would your ideal Saturday night be spent?
"In a small bar or restaurant with good friends, taking in the sounds of the next undiscovered musical geniuses."
What’s your favourite thing about Australia?
"Picking one is too hard! If forced I'd have to say the sunny disposition of the people, closely followed by the sunny disposition of the weather..."
