Employer Super Survey 2009
In a recent survey of HR Directors, AHC Pacific and www.super.com.au have uncovered worrying levels of disengagement regarding the super fund decisions employers make on behalf of their employees.
Despite recent poor fund performance and high levels of financial uncertainty, the majority of Australian employers have not reviewed their default super fund for three or more years and almost a third have never reviewed it.
‘Employer inertia with superannuation could be contributing to a grim financial destiny for many Australians. We know that the illusion of financial certainty for life was swept away with the global financial crisis. In its wake came widespread nervousness, delayed retirement, lost money and eroded confidence in our super system. But despite all this, many employers have failed to take the necessary steps to ensure the adequacy of their default super options,’ says Samantha Benecke, Principal Consultant with communications consultancy, AHC Pacific.
